Frequently Asked Questions
Microneedling is an FDA approved skin restoration procedure that uses many fine needles to pierce the skin, breaking down scar tissue and old skin, triggering a regenerative response. This procedure triggers your body to produce fresh, beautiful skin. The new skin cells produce additional elastin and collagen fibers which create firmer skin and enhanced circulation.
Microneedling has many positive effects on the skin, including a smoother texture, reduced wrinkles, reduced stretch marks, increased firmness and enhanced circulation. A natural glow is common after your skin heals from the procedure.
Don’t use any peeling chemicals on your skin for at least 3 days after treatment. This includes AHAs (glycolic acid, lactic acid), retinol and other retinoids. You may use gentle healing, moisturing creams to aid in the healing process. If you’re unsure about a product, be sure to ask your brow doctor. We also recommend avoiding the sun after treatment, wearing hats and applying sunscreen, especially in the Arizona summer.
Microneedling is an excellent option to treat acne scaring, regular scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, rough skin, large pores, sun damage, rosacia and stretch marks. Microneedling is also a great way to maintain healthy, beautiful looking skin.
Microneedling is safe to perform on every skin type and color. The chance of a change in skin color after the procedure is minimal, although you may experience some redness and inflammation immediately after the procedure. This procedure can be used on all different skin locations. This includes more sensitive areas such as your eyelids, neck, back of hands, arms, stomach and legs.
Microneedling is also not suitable for anyone with open cuts, wounds or abbrasions. If you have used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last 3 months, you are not a good candidate for microneedling. This is because Accutane impacts the skin’s natural healing process, creating a risk of scaring. If you have had skin radiation within the past year, have a herpes outbreak or other skin infections, microneedling is not for you. If you have a history of scarring, impaired healing or keloids, we recommend against receiving this procedure. AZ Brow Doctor does not offer microneedling to pregnant or breastfeeding mothers at this time.
While this procedure does slightly puncture the skin, the risk of infection is minimal. This is due to the procedure being done in a sanitary clinical environment by an expert. The tiny wounds also close very quickly, minimizing the risk of infection.
Every patient is different, so you’ll need to determine the best cource of treatment with your brow doctor. The procedure can be repeated every 4-6 weeks until desired results are acheived. We recommend at least 3 treatments for collagen induction, and 3 – 6 treatments for scar reduction.
No! We can apply numbing cream prior to the procedure to minimize pain and discomfort.
Besides minor irritation immediately after the procedure, the only side effect is more beautiful, healthy looking skin!
